Screenprints
Recently I started to experiment with screen printing. A time consuming, but fascinating artform with surprising results over and over again, in particular concerning new colours that arise when two different layers of ink overlap. I usually make multiple prints of the same design, however always in a limited edition and as with all handmade work, every print is unique.
In this work I am inspired by the same sources as my paper collages and sculptures: biomorphism, neuro-aesthetics, colour theory, symbolism and archetypes and the subconscious mind.
I create abstract, organic shapes and experiment with negative or empty space, which determine the composition and atmosphere. Small changes can have big effects. Unexpected shapes originate which appear to be the essence of what I want to express. To quote Frank Lloyd Wright: ‘space is the breath of art’.
